There are certain skills you need to know for mountaineering. I took a 5 day seminar with RMI on Mt Rainier that covered these skills including; snow and ice anchors, crevasse rescue, ice climbing, fixed line travel, self arrest, belaying and other technical skills. There skills are essential to be prepared for everything and to save yourself or others. In this picture, I am hanging in an open crevasse with no seeable bottom. It was a little nerve racking climbing over the lip and free falling until the rope caught. My group set up quick anchors and a rope system to pull me up. These skills were the foundation for all of my future climbs and big mountain dreams.
