Mt Everest is located on the border of Nepal and China in the Himalaya mountain range, at 29,029 feet above sea level; making it the tallest mountain in the world. The Tibetan name for Everest is Chomolunga, meaning "Goddess Mother of the World". This mountain is sacred to the Sherpa, nearby Buddhist residents and many visitors. The first official summit was in 1953 by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmond Hillary. Although, there is ongoing debate if George Mallory and Andrew Irvine summited in 1924 before their deaths. Everest is shaped like a three sided pyramid with the Southeast face rising above Nepal and the most commonly climbed route. "Everest shows you the grace of great dreams, fears overcome and hopefully triumph over the most desperate outlook". This quote embodies my vision for my next expedition this spring.
